Situated on the banks of the Thames, The Savoy is one of London's most historical establishments with a river view which inspired Claude Monet's impressionist paintings of the capital's bridges. The Savoy is located on the Strand, a short walk away both from the theatres and shops of the West End and the City of London, and lies within easy reach of landmark monuments, including Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament.

Conference delegates are recommended to stay at The Savoy Hotel, where special rates have been negotiated. We strongly advise you to book early as November is one of the busiest months in London. Complimentary transport for all Conference events will depart from and return to The Savoy.

Gala Dinner 16 November 2006

Savoy HotelThe Conference Gala Dinner on Thursday 16 November will take place at the Victoria and Albert Museum.

The V&A, located in South Kensington, is generally regarded as holding the world's greatest collection of decorative arts and design, with artefacts representing many of the world's richest cultures from 3000BC to the present day. Originally founded in 1852, the museum was renamed in 1899 in honour of Queen Victoria and her late consort Albert. Today its 145 galleries cover some 7 miles and are home to a collection of 4 million items of European, Indian, Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Islamic decorative arts. Often cited as housing the greatest collection of Italian Renaissance sculpture outside Italy (including a full-size replica of Michelangelo’s David), the V&A also boasts a diverse collection of haute-couture fashion, jewellery, glass, metalwork, ceramics, furniture, photography, textiles, musical instruments and architecture. Dinner guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a private view of the new “Leonardo da Vinci” or “Renaissance at Home” exhibitions.

The Gala Dinner will take place in the museum’s Raphael Gallery, home to seven tapestry cartoons by Raphael that are some of the most important examples of Renaissance art in the world and among Britain’s greatest art treasures. Commissioned by Pope Leo X in 1515 in preparation for the tapestries that hang upon the Sistine Chapel, the Raphael Cartoons depict a series of scenes in the lives of St Peter and Paul. They were purchased by the future Charles I on a trip to Genoa in 1623 and remain part of the Queen’s Royal Collection today.

All Conference delegates are invited to attend the Gala Dinner. Click here to register for the Conference and Gala Dinner.
