IOSCO Technical Conference London 2006
A window on IOSCO: a dialogue with industry on the global agenda for financial markets

The IOSCO Technical Committee Conference is now over.

Callum McCarthyFollowing successful IOSCO conferences in New York and Frankfurt, it gives me great pleasure to invite delegates to the 2006 IOSCO Technical Committee Conference to be held on November 16-17 in London. Our theme of "A window on IOSCO: a dialogue with the industry on the global agenda for financial markets" is designed to make the workings of IOSCO more transparent while also encouraging engagement with the industry.

A robust interaction between the financial industry and regulators is essential if we are to achieve our stated goals of better, more intelligent, proportionate regulation. The kind of open exchanges on the leading securities issues of the day that we hope will take place at the conference will enable IOSCO, as the global standard setter for the securities industry, to be ever more attuned to the key issues affecting markets.

I for one am looking forward to two days of creative and insightful discussion and to seeing you in London in November.

Yours sincerely,

Callum McCarthy, Chairman, Financial Services Authority

Hector SantsIncreasingly IOSCO counts. As the sector standard setter for the global securities industry, IOSCO directly affects the behaviour of financial market participants. And because IOSCO counts, as an institution we must be ever more mindful of the need for active interaction with, and the scrutiny of, those affected by our decisions and guidance.

I believe that this year's theme, "A window on IOSCO: a dialogue with industry on the global agenda for financial markets", perfectly captures the objectives of transparency, accountability and dialogue which must guide our organisation now and in the future. Accordingly, we have lined up an excellent roster of respected speakers from industry, academia and the regulatory world that will address many of the key issues of immediate interest to the conference participants.

The IOSCO Technical Committee Conference is a showcase event which the FSA and London are extremely proud to be hosting in 2006. I firmly believe that the programme we have put together for this year's Conference offers a unique opportunity for both financial industry participants and regulators to deepen their appreciation and understanding of the pressing securities issues of our day.

I look forward to seeing you in London.

Yours sincerely,

Hector Sants, Managing Director, Wholesale & Institutional Markets, and FSA Head of Delegation to IOSCO
